Raipur: One factor that has constantly overshadowed, the image of otherwise peaceful, mineral rich, tribal dominated state Chhattisgarh, is the Maoist violence.
With the change of power in Chhattisgarh, left wing extremism has been on the decline in past one year. According to a recent data, provided by the state police, there has been a considerable decline in Maoist violence in past one year.
The data claims in 2018, 166 naxals encounters were reported. This number came down to 112 in 2019. It is more than 32 percent decline.
In 2018 ,123 Naxals were killed in different police encounters. But in this year only 77 Naxals were shot down.
In the same time frame civilian casualty has also come down considerably.
Last year, 89 people were killed in Naxalite incidents, while this year only 46 civilians lost their lives. It is 48.31 per cent, decline in the number of dead civilians this year as compared to the previous year.
In 2018, 53 policemen were killed in Maoist incidents while this year only 19 lost their lives on Naxal front.
The number of martyred policemen has come down by 64.15 per cent this year, the data revealed.
There were 77 incidents of IED explosions last year and this year only forty one.
This year, the incidence of IED explosions decreased by 46.75 per cent. There was a 56 to 25 per cent decrease in arms and robbery incidents as well.
